VILLA ELIJAH'S CONSTRUCTION

Construction of the Villa Elijah's Guesthouse, step by step ...

Fondations :
Here are some pictures of the construction of the Villa, which began in 2000, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean 10m from the ocean, facing the beaches of Roume and the others archipelago islands.
The Villa is 3m above sea level, and perfectly matches the contours of the hill.
Many young people of the village worked on its construction and especially its filling which takes months.
Indeed, the foundation is filled with blocks of granite, pebbles, gravel and sand brought up from the sea at low tide.
Floor Tile
The base of the foundation lasted only a week, a lot of gravel and sand had been brought up from the beach of the port. These were stored outdoors, allowing the 2000/2001 rain season to wash the sea salt they contained. Then the first brick was laid.
Raising Walls
After this first brick, in the year 2001, the walls were mounted. Two masons worked there. With the help of maneuvers. All this under the eyes of Jeannot and the "King", his site manager, friend, trusted and advised man. For twenty years his elder.
"The King" is also a scraper/welder, he supervised the shipyard, tied and welded all the Iron of the Villa and the Anti-Vols. The frame of the house
Finally, in 2002, the carpenters arrived to install the framework and the plates.
The Roof
Some 175 AluZinc sheets were laid. These sheets are made of a Zinc-Aluminium alloy and will not rust when in contact with ocean spray. This is very important. This also took 2 weeks to install the roof.
Les Anti-vols, windows and doors
458/5000 All is in Acajou Wood in the Villa, the bar, the doors, the windows, the beds, etc ...
Everything has been made to order, as the 1/2 or 3 doors for the living room and the windows are out of the ordinary. This allows a good ventilation in the house.
The anti-vols, doors and windows were laid one after the other. Villa Elijah's started sheltering us at the end of 2002.
" Petit à Petit l'oiseau fait son nid ".
End of the first installment ...
Finally, all this long work is rewarded, we sleep well, not hot, no mosquitoes, the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks have become our rockers.
What peace in low season ...!
Installation of tiles
The last big work has benn done in the Villa, the foor tile has been installed in all the house.
Finitions
The house starts to have a beautiful look, from the top of it hill. At the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.
In 2007, the ceilings were laid throughout the Villa and in March 2008 solar panels arrived to give it its autonomy in electricity.
Then, after having tried to dig a well on our estate, and in the nearby surroundings, we decided to move 150/200 meters away, not very far from the community wells of the village and finally after 3 attempts we managed to reach the Ground water pump, installed our lift pump, pipes and electrical cables up to the Villa, built a water tower and since 2013 we have running water at Villa Elijah, the only official hotel in the area, Ile de Roume to have it.
Thus every year at the beginning of the dry season, work is carried out on the villa because the bad weather of the rainy season make the buildings on the island suffer greatly.
Since 2012, too, four foundations of round huts have been built and are awaiting construction, and large garden facilities have also been made to enable us, and we are proud of it, to have the most beautiful flower garden of all the Loos island.
